Private Pilots Licence
We suggest you start with one of our trial lessons which is a basic introduction to our super training aircraft, the Piper PA38 Tomahawk. The trial lesson will allow you to feel the exhilarating excitement of controlling the aircraft 'hands on'.
Once you have made the decision that flying is for you, it is necessary to become a fully fledged member of Truman Aviation in order to access our range of flying training services. You can then commence your course of formal tuition with one of our dedicated instructors to gain the prestigious Private Pilots Licence.
A small amount of self study at home will assist in smooth & rapid progress through the course, in particular to help you pass the ground examinations on topics ranging from Aviation Law to Meteorology. These exams are multiple choice and Truman can make them even easier as we stock a huge range of training reference books & sample exam questions in our school shop.
It is necessary to pass a medical before that unforgettable 1st solo, which could happen in as little as 15 hours airborne tuition. We recommend the medical is undertaken near the beginning of your course & the average person in good health will have no problems meeting the standards. Depending on the type of licence you with to gain this can be undertaken by either Trumans own CAA approved Medical Examiner or your own G.P.
Truman operates a very organised & structured approach to your flying training. When you arrive for your lesson your dedicated instructor will be ready to meet you with an assigned aircraft. The pre & post flight briefings for each lesson are provided 'free of charge'; you only pay whilst the aircraft engine is running!
Continuity of training is important to achieve the skill level required to gain your Private Pilots Licence (PPL). There are two basic types of flying licence; the 'European' PPL & the 'UK only' National PPL (NPPL). The European one is more flexible & allows additional ratings to be added easily. The course for this is a minimum of 45 hours flight training & has a stricter criteria for the issue of the appropriate medical certificate. The NPPL is for UK airspace only & is a minimum of 32 hours flight training. The medical standards for the NPPL are less onerous, being the same as those for professional driving. This means that flying is now accessible to those who in the past may have had difficulty in reaching the medical standards required for the European licence. Everyone has a different capacity to learn a new skill & if you need to spread your training over a longer period of time, there may be a need to increase the number of training hours required to meet the standard expected by Truman's own CAA Flight Examiner who conducts your flying skills test.
All the Instructors & staff at Truman are ready to assist you turn your flying ambitions into reality with the minimum time & expense. It really is easier than you think!
